Learn more about quickstep dance
Quickstep is a lively and elegant ballroom dance that originated in the 1920s as a faster version of the foxtrot, influenced by jazz, swing, and ragtime music. It is characterized by its brisk tempo, light and energetic movements, and intricate footwork. Danced in 4/4 time, quickstep incorporates a mix of slow and fast steps, hops, runs, and syncopated turns, requiring dancers to be agile, coordinated, and graceful. Partners move smoothly across the floor in close hold, maintaining posture and timing. The quickstep is a staple in competitive ballroom dance and social dance scenes, known for its joyful energy, dynamic rhythm, and sophisticated style.
