Learn more about drums

Drums are percussion instruments that produce sound through the vibration of a drumhead or membrane, which is typically struck with sticks, mallets, or bare hands. They come in various shapes and sizes, with the most common types being bass drums, snare drums, tom-toms, and floor toms. Drums are used across nearly every musical genre, from orchestral music to rock, jazz, and traditional folk music. In a drum kit, the bass drum provides the low-end thump, the snare drum offers sharp, crisp sounds, and the toms add tonal variety. Drums are essential for creating rhythm, groove, and energy in music. Historically, drums have been used in cultural and ceremonial contexts, from ancient rituals to modern-day parades and celebrations. Drumming techniques vary widely, with some styles requiring intricate hand movements or fast footwork, such as in drumlines or world percussion. Drums are known for their ability to connect people through rhythm and drive, making them fundamental to musical expression.
