The SEME program is a unique, three-month fellowship offering rural Ontario family doctors the opportunity to enhance their emergency medicine skills through practical and relevant training. With a focus on comprehensive care in smaller and rural communities, the program has successfully trained 217 family physicians to date. The SEME program provides a comprehensive clinical immersion experience, including three 4-week rotations and structured academic teaching, and is taught by top-rated faculty from the University of Toronto. The program aims to increase recruitment and retention of physicians providing emergency care in rural and semi-rural communities. By providing a practical training option, SEME helps family physicians develop the acute care skills required for emergency medicine.
