709 Roller Derby
Newfoundland and Labrador's first roller derby league, 709 Roller Derby, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting active and healthy lifestyles through the sport of roller derby. Established in December 2009 by two local women, the league has grown to include two regular home teams and a competitive bouting season from May to August. Governed by a board of 5 league-elected members, 709 Roller Derby offers a welcoming environment for skaters, volunteers, and sponsors alike. With year-round practices and regular events, the league aims to share the excitement of roller derby with the St. John's community. As a charity-focused organization, 709 Roller Derby supports local causes, such as Palestine Action YYT.
