TRACKS Youth Program

Founded in 2010 on Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg territory, TRACKS is an educational program that integrates Indigenous ecological knowledge with scientific principles. Hosted by Trent University within the Indigenous Environmental Studies and Sciences Program (IESS), TRACKS operates in partnership with Kawartha World Issues Centre and the First Peoples House of Learning. The organization offers a variety of programming including school workshops, camp programs, and the Oshkwazin Trailblazer Program, aiming to create awareness that Indigenous ecological knowledge is essential for comprehensive scientific approaches to environmental issues. By participating in TRACKS' programs, students gain culturally rich, science-based land-based learning experiences, fostering an understanding of interconnectedness among all living things and introducing them to diverse knowledge systems. The program's unique approach stands out by blending traditional and modern educational methods, providing a holistic learning experience that enriches the classroom environment for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth.
