New Directions Speakers' School
New Directions Speakers School is a unique public speaking program that teaches public speaking, leadership, and advocacy skills through raising awareness of social justice issues, created in 2008. The free 14-week course, running twice a year, focuses on effective communication, public speaking, and group facilitation, combined with substantive lectures on social justice issues. The school aims to develop public speaking and leadership skills and raise awareness of social justice issues, particularly for individuals facing economic challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and low income. With over 200 successful graduates, the school promotes peer support and mutual aid, and coordinates monthly alumni meetings for continued learning. New Directions Speakers School is a community-driven organization serving the Thunder Bay community for over 15 years.
