Dance Migration presents the Wisdom of Orixá, a week-long mini festival uniting artists from New Orleans and Brazil for workshops, talks, and performances celebrating the connections between the two cities through Afro-Brazilian Dance and music. The festival features leading figures in Samba and Afro-Brazilian Dance, including Mayombe Masai, Nildinha Fonsêca, and Zé Ricardo, and culminates with a free performance by Chief Adjuah at the 2024 TD Toronto Jazz Festival. The event is curated by Adrianna Yanuziello in collaboration with Lula Music & Arts and includes a range of workshops, masterclasses, and performances. With special guests from Salvador, Bahia, and Rio de Janeiro, the festival explores the interweaving of movement and ritual to celebrate and honor the connections between New Orleans and Brazil. The event is presented by Lula Music and Arts Centre, TD Toronto Jazz Festival, Dance Migration, Uma Nota Culture & Showzaço, and supported by Canada Council for the Arts.
