Cansing

Cansing is a non-auditioned adult choir based in Vancouver, BC, dedicated to fostering a community where everyone can find their voice. Founded by Gerda Blok-Wilson, a professional music educator and composer with a deep understanding of the transformative power of music, Cansing believes that if you can talk—and match pitch—you can sing! The choir focuses on teaching music from the inside out, emphasizing the meaning of the words we sing and expressing it vocally. This approach ensures that singers of all skill levels continue to join us every year over the past 20 years, creating a vibrant community where musicality is prioritized over strict music theory. At Cansing, we believe in community over competition and strive to expand our members' perspectives through a diverse range of music, including classics, jazz, popular, gospel, and world music. Our choice in music helps us connect with the world around us, singing because we want to feel connected and create a sense of belonging.
