Haidong Gumdo is a Korean martial art that focuses on the use of the sword, specifically the Korean sword known as the "gum" or "geom." It is a modern martial art that draws from traditional Korean swordsmanship and is known for its emphasis on precise, flowing movements, as well as mental discipline. Haidong Gumdo practitioners learn various techniques, such as cutting, thrusting, blocking, and sword forms (known as "poomse"), which help develop strength, agility, and focus. The martial art also incorporates training in the use of different types of swords, including single and double-edged blades, and emphasizes both physical fitness and the cultivation of inner calm and concentration. Haidong Gumdo is recognized for its dynamic and beautiful sword forms, and it is practiced by individuals of all ages, often as a way to develop both self-defense skills and personal growth. The art is practiced both as a competitive sport and as a form of self-discipline.
