Learn more about aikido

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed in the early 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba. It focuses on harmonizing with an attacker’s movements to neutralize aggression without causing harm. Unlike many martial arts that emphasize striking or brute force, aikido uses joint locks, throws, and redirection techniques to control opponents safely and efficiently. The philosophy behind aikido stresses peace, self-discipline, and respect, encouraging practitioners to resolve conflict with minimal violence. Training involves learning to blend with an opponent’s energy and using their force against them, promoting balance and fluid motion. Aikido also emphasizes mental focus, breathing, and awareness, making it both a physical and spiritual practice. It is practiced worldwide for self-defense, personal growth, and physical fitness.
