Ryerson School of Journalism

This is a Canadian Issue is a project by master's students at the Ryerson School of Journalism, in partnership with Journalists for Human Rights, aiming to increase Indigenous voices and stories in Canadian media and equip all journalists to cover Indigenous issues effectively. The project seeks to build a pathway of opportunity for Indigenous journalists through educational opportunities, internships, and jobs in the media industry. Developed by Lindsay Hanna and Sally Goldberg Powell, the project targets both Indigenous and non-Indigenous journalists and students. The goal is to promote reconciliation and understanding of Indigenous issues in Canada. By bridging the knowledge gap and reclaiming Indigenous perspectives, this project contributes to a more inclusive and equitable media landscape.
