Learn more about roller derby
Roller derby is a fast-paced, full-contact team sport played on roller skates, typically on an oval track. Originating in the United States in the 1930s, it has grown into a popular sport with leagues worldwide. Two teams, each with five players, compete to score points by having a designated player called the “jammer” lap members of the opposing team. Meanwhile, blockers work to help their jammer and impede the opposing jammer. Roller derby is known for its high energy, strategic gameplay, and physicality, requiring strength, speed, agility, and teamwork. It promotes empowerment, inclusivity, and community, with many leagues emphasizing grassroots organization and a supportive culture.
