Learn more about merengue dance
Merengue dance is a lively and energetic partner dance that originated in the Dominican Republic and is considered the country’s national dance. It features a simple, yet rhythmic two-step pattern that allows dancers to move smoothly across the floor with a characteristic hip-swaying motion. The basic step involves stepping side to side while maintaining close contact with a partner, often accompanied by turns and spins. Merengue music is upbeat and fast-paced, driven by instruments like the accordion, saxophone, and percussion. This dance is widely popular throughout Latin America and the Caribbean and is enjoyed socially and competitively, celebrated for its joyful expression and easy-to-learn style.
